From Steve Jackson's website.  It looks like a 6th edition Ogre might be out in 2010

Looks good. Those maps in particular could be of much use for other games too.

Hah, we're still playing the original...
I'm so behind the times.

I've always wanted to amass enough of the cool looking Ogre minis to pull it off as a proper minis game... but keep getting distracted by other nifty gewgaws. I'm loathe to proxy for it too because the ogre minis have such an iconic look to them.

Can't wait for this (well i live cause i have already been waiting for a while). Ogre is one of those games that always costs a lot on ebay and is rarely in a decent condition. I guess i'll wait a little longer for this.

I'd be happy just seeing regular availability of the miniatures, especially the ones released after then end of retail distribution from the previous edition (Mk. I, Mk. II, Mk. VI, Doppelsoldner, Ninja IIRC).

Saw this on the website and on TMP - Lots of doubters on the latter - and the first thing that crossed my mind was that these maps appear large enough for the minis to be used.

Course, there was talk of that in the first Minis rule book, and there was all that rumour-mongering before the Ogre Ninja and Mk IV were released, so you just never know with Evil Stevie Smiley

The maps are nothing new - they came in the Deluxe Ogre/GEV box sets that were released back around '00. And they are large enough to use the minis. Wink

He needs to come out with maps that are of really good material and can take a lot of abuse.

I believe the time is right for Ogre.

This is the year for sci-fi- we've had movies such as district 9, star trek, terminator salvation and avatar all last year. How may sci fi movies can you think of the year before?

Now if sjg can exploit it properly, they stand to make a great deal of money..

Whoop!  As the proud owner of lots and lots of Ogre minis, a new edition is welcome.  I just hope the maps have larger hexes for the Ogres and their 'Caboose'.

Take care,

Hmmm... I still have OGRE Deluxe kicking around in my hobby room.  I wonder if it would play well with Heroscape hexes?  Or would they be too small?

It would be extremely cool to see nicely-done minis in plastic.  SJG could team up with Wargames Factory to bring some to market.

I own several of the various editions, including the most recent "chit" version as well as the Deluxe version (and all the miniatures sets).  I love Ogre, but I am sad to see it re-re-released yet again.  Just keep the darn thing in print, it's not that difficult, instead of toying with the fan base's emotions every time.  I'm really sick of "rule tweaks for the sake of making a new edition."  Like the newest version of Car Wars:  it's junk; there was no need to change it.  It smacks of greed.

Now, if SJ wants to redo Ogre Miniatures with modern miniatures rules and theory, then I'll be first in line.  But Ogre miniatures on printed maps bore me.
