Fantasy Flight Games has released some freebies for their new game Dusk Tactics.  The rules for Dust Tactics (pdf, 7.4 MB) is now available. Since I will be attending Gen Con this year, I will be sure to get some good intel on this game.

August 5th at 10am, Dust Tactics will debut to tens of thousands of excited Gen Con attendees in Indianapolis, Indiana. At that very moment, four competitors will officially kick-off the Dust Tactics Gen Con Skirmish at the Fantasy Flight Games’ Event Hall (ICC : 125), and the first open demos of Dust Tactics will begin at our booth (#720).

Here is a video overview of the Dust Tactics miniatures boardgame.

Hydra Miniatures will be releasing their new game and ruleset called War Rocket at Gencon.

After two years of hard work, Hydra Miniatures is pleased to announce the completion of the War Rocket rulebook, just in time for Gen Con Indy. This last month was a flurry of activity, as the Hydra team put the finishing touches on editing, illustrating and designing this stunning book. We are very proud of our final product, and we are exited to share the action-packed cover by talented Spanish illustrator Diego Gisbert Llorens. This high-quality rulebook is 78 pages in length and will retail for $25.

Often while hanging out in my miniature room, I will check out my 10mm Fantasy figures by Copplestone Castings.  These figures are really cool and if you're into The Lord Of The Ring, they are basically a must have.  The detail for 10mm is truly amazing.  Below is just a sample of what you can purchase.  I am hoping that Mark comes out with some more figures in the coming months.

Here are a few previews of the next wave of Critical Mass Games 15mm Protolene Okami assault walker vehicles.  The Protolene Khanate Okami offers the Protolene some much needed squad transport capacity as well as carrying enough firepower for close support of infantry assaults.  The Okami will be available in three turret variants.  Unlike the Marrok and Tamaska/Fenrir kits, the Okami will have pre-positioned legs in three variants making assembly much easier.  The release date for these has not been set, but CMG is hoping for early 2011.

Here are some figures from the Antenociti's Workshop - Governance Of Technology line.  The figures are quite detailed and the style is very french looking (Rackhamish) to me with long lines to the sculpts.  The guns are very high tech looking.  Compared to a Sternguard, the figures are much less bulky and very slender.  I really like the blue base that the T-PEA Standard Trooper TPR comes with.  You don't see a lot of bases like that.

So here is my first test case using the The Army Painter Color Primer method.  I am extremely happy with the results.  I still have detail to added to the figures, but all and all they came out great.  The figures are for a game called Kill Team by GW.  The game basically uses 200 points from any of the Codexes to create your kill team.  The games usually last only about 30 minutes and is pretty deadly.  The cool part is you don't need a lot of figures to play and it seems most people have at least some GW figures laying around to form a Kill Team.  The colors used were based on the Space Marine Codex.  My Kill Team consists of 7 Sternguard figures.

Here are the steps I used.
1. Prep Miniatures (Filed down metal areas)
2. Cut the figures metal tabs and based them on 30mm wooden bases.
(Yea they should be based on 25mm, but I like the look of 30mm)
3. Used wall filler for the base texture.
4. Use the Color Primer Navy Blue
(This saves time by not having to paint a base coat)
5. Painted the bases with 2 shades of brown and 1 shade of yellow
6. Use a 3 color method for white (I used Foundry's Arctic Grey #33)
7. Used Reaper (Brown Liner) to outline certain areas on the figures.  Love this stuff.
8. Used Shinny Gold on emblems.
9. Used GW Ultra Marine blue for highlight.
10. Used Privateer Press paints for the off white and red.
11. GW black and silver where used on the guns.

The brushes I used were The Army Painter Wargamer: Regiment and Wargamer Detail brush.  The brushes were really nice to used and held the paint.  I really do like the design over the typical round brushes.

Here are a bunch of comparisons of various new releases from Khurasan Miniatures.  My Favorites out of the bunch are the 15mm Lhurgg Alien Tribesmen, the Vacation Alien and of course the Felid Baron in Command/Battle Dress.  If you are a Star Wars fan, the Lhurgg would work for the Jar Jar Binks (Gungans) type figures.

The Army Painter is now a proud sponsor of the MiniatureReview.com.  If you live in the US, you now can order directly from The U.S. Army Painter website, so If there are no stores near you - do not worry - just go to the website and get what you need – it's all there...  They have a flat shipping rate of $ 5.99 and FREE shipping with orders over $ 65.00.  Bo said that he would be sending some samples to me when the U.S. webstore opened and what do you know, but a bunch of samples of their paint brush line, Color Primer, Quickshade and Jungle Tuff arrived.  A big thanks to Bo for sending products.

The brushes come in two categories.

WARGAMER series (White): Special purpose brushes with sleek triangular handles for absolutely perfect grip. These brushes are top-end and each has the correct hair type for its purpose. All are handmade and manufactured in Europe.

HOBBY series (Red): These brushes are made form the finest quality Toray synthetic hair and offers a great introduction to the painting hobby.

I have been really wanting try the brushes and Color Primers out, so the first thing I did was use the Color Primer Navy Blue on a bunch of GW Space Marine Sternguard troopers.  The color primer is a little thicker than a normal spray primer, but coats beautifully and drys fast.  As an added bonus, is it not only primes your figures, but it also paints them in one step.  The Color Primer Navy Blue is a little brighter than the GW Ultramarine blue.

After letting the figures dry overnight I, opted to use the Wargamer: Regiment brush to apply a base coat of grey to areas that were going to become white.  I really like the feel of the he triangular handles.  The paint brushes seem to hold the paint very well and I had no difficulty getting the paint to go where I wanted it to.

Antenociti's Workshop makes some highly detailed and very futuristic 28mm sci-fi  vehicles.  Below is the Future Car 2 - Interceptor (£10.95 inc Vat).  The car is made out of a clear yellowish resin (looks like a bar of soap).  The car I received was really detailed with no visible flaws.  The car is perfect for any futuristic setting.  Now if only I could paint mine as good as the one below, I would be set.
